In May a very sociable Chat ‘n Chew was held at the Tumbulgum Tavern to introduce the new TCA committee and hear about current community activities and future directions from Jenny Kidd, TCA President and Robert Budd, Tumbulgum Celebrates 150 Years Project Manager.
There was great interest in the spreadsheet outlining a range of celebration ideas. It’s clear we have an enthusiastic community in Tumbulgum, with over 70 ideas recorded during previous meetings!
The community told the 150 celebrations organizing sub-committee you wanted a street party with entertainment, food and a parade. In February TCA members voted to collaborate with Tweed Shire Council to bring the 2016 Tweed River Festival to Tumbulgum, along with the fabulous Lantern Parade. This collaboration recognises the importance of Tumbulgum’s sesquicentennial (1866-2016) to the people of the Tweed. Local North Tumbulgum artist Jan Sinclair is working on concept drawings for the festival t-shirts. The festival will be held Saturday 12 November. Save the date!
Opera Queensland has conducted two more singing workshops, collected recipes and connected with local musicians. There is great interest in the Arts Northern Rivers Project, If These Halls Could Talk, which gives our community a great opportunity to perform in a show developed for and about Tumbulgum, under the direction of Jason Barry-Smith of OperaQ.
Thanks to Andrew and staff of Tumbulgum Tavern for providing venue and sausage sizzle.
TCA membership numbers are growing, from 24 in January to 44 this month. Welcome!
