The guest speaker for the June TCA general meeting was Matthew Bloor, Project Officer Waterways, Tweed Shire Council. Matthew spoke about riverbank vegetation projects, in particular along the Rous River.
Waterway health is directly related to the condition of banks and adjacent land. Tweed Shire Council has received $100,000 in funding through the NSW Environmental Trust and will work with landholders to improve the health of the Rous River between Chillingham and Murwillumbah over the next three years. Council is also investigating establishing a canoe trail along the Rous.
Matthew has supervised recent regeneration work at the end of Tumbulgum Road, at the junction of the Rous and Tweed Rivers. Matthew also spoke about the work being undertaken at Bluey Hill Park in preparation for our community planting day and installation of the 150 years monument. Our thanks to Matthew!
